“Best flight ever Cathy! Didn’t even need to hold my partner’s hand or listen to the hypnosis on take off. Thank you, thank you. I will be taking a flight to another island (my partner’s island) which I have never had the confidence to do before’

Lucy not her real name teacher

I came to see Cathy because for 2 years now I have a fear of being in enclosed spaces and the last time I flew I absolutely panicked sweating profusely terrified because I had no way of escaping quickly.
I wanted to go to Queensland for the school holidays and had to fly. Cathy through the hypnosis taught me how to calm myself down and how to take myself mentally to that calm place so I could then minimise any fears physical reactions I usually experience. She gave me a recording to listen to which reinforced these suggestions to listen to for 30 days. She also reframed the nervousness I felt about the flying into feelings of excitement and got me to think about how I would prepare one of my young students for a first time flight, I am a teacher. She also taught me how to present and be mindful of my surroundings whilst on the plane – to be curious and take note of everything and everybody, therefore distracting me. She also showed me a free app that teaches you to deep breathe – another method of calming down mentally and physically, Cathy is very very easy to talk to and we had a few laughs as well. Anyhow I took my flight to Queensland being thoroughly prepared with all the strategies I learned at the subconscious and conscious level and experienced no distress”

“Hello Cathy I just have to tell you I took my anxiety in the palm of my hand and threw it to oblivion and very successfully walked the bridge on my own both ways after our meeting today . I am truly grateful to you for showing me that I have all that I need at my disposal to lead a stress free life” Sylvia June 2014.

FEAR OF PUBLIC SPEAKING

Phil B

” My mouth would go dry and my hands would start shaking it was so embarrassing and my heart felt like it was going to burst through my chest- I hated the weekly meetings and dreaded them so great was my fear of speaking publicly. I had no choice as it was part of my job to present to my manager every week. Cathy got to the the real fear I had which was being judged something I was conscious of all my life especially when I was laughed at in primary school when I gave a talk on frogs. She taught me how to get myself into a state of deep relaxtion and then via suggestions to play a movie from start to finish of the presentation going well and repeat that movie and attach the good feelings. She also reminded me of how I love to write up my presentations which I do and how much people enjoy them every week as they always clap and give me great feedback. She through suggestions and visualisations helped me shrink that memory right down of that terrible time in my childhood and reminded me that I was now an adult and I was in charge of how I felt and acted. I had to listen to the recording she gave me for 31 days to reinforce the suggestions. I now look forward to my presentations”

FEAR OF BIRDS & MOTHS

 Jordan. I once had a client who had a moth phobia who was stuck in her car at Bunnings for over 2 hours as a moth was in her car. She had developed a phobia from one instance of a moth flying into her face as a little girl. I had 2 clients who were scared of birds flying or anywhere near them. This particular client could not sit outside a café if there were any birds there. Can you imagine how that impacted her life negatively? Most of the time not always the fear has come from one event and the trouble is that from the one event their brain has defaulted to that fear over and over again whenever they experienced the fear or phobia in the future. So we need to reprogram the brain and get them to have a different response. So we firstly physically calm the body down first with breathing exercises and visualisation and then we proceed with the suggestions and reprogramming if you like. By calming the body down first the heart slowing, the breathing slowing we get the client out of their head out of the fight and flight response where they are able to control their emotions and make better decisions take action to move out of their fear. Its all about desire on the clients part to change and massive repetition of the suggestions and building a new construct, belief system for the client so they can be free of the fear or phobia.

 Fear of Gagging

Cathy has treated clients for fear of dental procedures specifically fear of needles and also has treated clients for a gagging reflex This client could not insert a plate for her bottom and front teeth and would gag every time she did it .. The hypnosis is very much about teaching the client ways to get themselves into a deep relaxed state and trance. This is done through breathing techniques and hypnotic suggestions via the imagination and using the clients motivation to overcome the fear. This is why therapies such as yoga and meditation, regular exercise. good sleep habits and nutrition all play a constructive and helpful role along with the hypnosis. Hypnosis is a therapy not a cure. We are not doctors. The client is given a post hypnosis recording which when listened to consecutively for 30 days and more reinforces the suggestions given in the hypnosis. With practice of all of the above the client was able to insert the top plate and now working on the bottom

What are fears and phobias?
There are probably very few of us that do not have any fears or phobias, even if it’s as simple as being a little fearful of spiders, or perhaps liking to sleep with a little light shining somewhere nearby as the dark is not comfortable. Many such fears are manageable and the majority of us experience them at some point in our lives with little impact. However, some people have fears of phobias that limit their opportunities in life: the person with a fear of flying may find being in a plane uncomfortable, however someone with a more serious fear, or phobia, of flying may completely avoid going on, or perhaps even seeing, an airplane;
This can impact severely on their lives stopping them travelling or conducting business. Equally, someone with a fear of open spaces may avoid large parks, fields and sports grounds, however someone with a more serious fear, or perhaps agoraphobia, may never leave their house. Below is a list of the more common fears and phobias that we get consulted about: Its important to remember that experiencing these fears and phobias cause panic attacks which only reinforce the fear or phobia.

Do you suffer from any of these common fears and phobias?

  2. Flying  – aviatopophobia
  3. Fear of Birds
  4. Water – Hydrophobia
  5. Heights – Acrophobia
