How to achieve those New Years Resolutions.

Willpower versus Want Power and New Year’s Resolutions

What is Willpower versus Want power?

Willpower involves putting off what you want in the short-term to get what you want in the long-term. It requires conscious effort and often a significant investment of emotional and cognitive resources. It involves resisting urges, fighting temptations, and employing different strategies to maintain control. It is a lot of hard work. There have been many studies done on behaviour which suggest that willpower along is not enough to make a lasting change. According to U.S. News & World Report, the failure rate of New Year’s resolutions is said to be about 80 percent. Most lose their resolve by mid-February. In hypnosis we can call willpower Want power. Want power can be described as wanting having a strong desire to attain a goal rather than needing to. We can enlist the help of your subconscious mind where your various programmes of behaviour and thinking are deeply lodged. Think of the subconscious or unconscious mind as that player on the team who wasn’t on your side. Now by talking to the Want power subconscious mind once in trance via suggestions and repetition, we can get it on the same team. In perfect agreement. We are putting in a new programme of habits to replace your smoking habit. Along with your motivation and all the reasons why you want to quit forever. So, you associate pleasure and reward to quitting not pain and deprivation. The choice is yours. Why is willpower not enough to change behaviour, willpower alone is not sufficient to get us to form those habits. According to psychologist Roy Baumeister, willpower is like a muscle and it can be depleted from doing tasks that require the control of impulses. This is why habits can’t be formed from brute force alone.
